Returning to college is a financial drain on anyone especially if you’re providing for your children. Even through the economical hardships due to the recession you do not have to lose sight of your dream to return to college. Through college scholarships and grants paying for your education is no longer a pressing issue. There are numerous scholarships or grants one can apply for. A major benefit to these forms of financial aid is one does not have to pay them back. The stimulus package has allowed numerous organizations to create new financial aid programs and grants for educations seeking individuals including working adults. Also, to increase re-enrollment Obama has also enhanced the amount of funding for Federal Pell Grant raising the amount from 50 to 00 to encourage individuals to pursue a higher education. Regardless if you are planning on enrolling in online classes or the traditional campus education scholarships or grants can be used for either.  It is also important to research all of the scholarship and grant options that are suitable for you. Once decided on which scholarship that one would like apply for it’s important to keep yourself updated on the college’s requirements regarding the grant. Another important thing to consider is to occasionally check in with the financial aid department on campus regarding any changes.

The hardest part to taking this life changing step is simply getting started. Here are some proactive tips to increase your success in returning to schools.

Meet with an Academic Advisor

Establishing a strong relationship with an academic advisor is a wonderful stepping stone. The advice on time management and planning out the courses needed to obtain your degree are vital to successfully re-enrolling in coursers. To combat with the busy lifestyle of mothers it’s important to know that this information can either be obtained online or in person.

Talk to other mothers in returning to School

Discussing your situation with other mom’s returning to school can also benefit you by informing you about financial aid options that you may not be aware of.

Sign up for FASFA

FASFA which stands Free Application for Federal Student Aid decides the amount for certain government issued financial aid. The flexibility of this program is the paper work is provided online which allows you to fill it out at one’s convince. The paper work just needs to be completed by March 2nd.

Speak with a person from the Financial Aid Office

Even though pulling information from the financial aid website is helpful it is important to contact a financial aid advisor either via e-mail or by phone. This allows the advisor to inform you of other scholarships that you may not be aware of that are specific for your particular campus. Often the financial aid office has a file for specific scholarships that provide information on grants from alumni programs or local establishments. Due not limit your educational potential due to lack of funds. Apply to numerous scholarships.
